It used to be that when you heard about organic, what he thought of dirty, long-haired, singing, running barefoot hippie commune. Well, I take a shower several times a day, I shaved my head, I can not sing, I rarely go out without shoes, and I live in a very modern family home with just his wife. I’m organic!

So what is organic? USDA strictly controls what can be labeled organic. It’s basically confirming that the cultures are free of radiation sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and genetically modified organisms prohibited. Animals must meet the standards of health and welfare and to be free of antibiotics, growth hormones, and are fed 100% organic feed. Products containing more than one ingredient that has 95% or more certificates organic content.

So why is this important nutritionally? All you need to do is count calories and monitor your percentages of fats, carbohydrates and proteins, is not it? So what about the chemicals and toxins? It can not be good for you. But they could not sell it if it is not safe, is not it? Safe is a relative term. Companies are always looking for ways to increase profits. The methods used must review and approve, but generally dislike comprehensive long-term studies. They are considered safe for the general population. But, it does not affect a person, can be detrimental to the other. And who knows what effect that years of accumulation and combination of all of these artificial joints have. So why take the risk?

So, here is my story. My wife and I are allergic to dust, pollen, etc. Then one summer a few years ago, she has a lot of problems with my allergies, but I was wrong. It seemed to get worse after meals. So she decided to explore potential sources of food through the elimination diet (which turned out to be wheat). At the same time, we decided to eat more organic foods and try to help eliminate other sources.

I only went a couple of days, and I did not want to leave the country. After a few days I was back to normal. A few months later, I had to travel again and the same thing happened. Finally it occurred to me that my system just was not used to all the preservatives, hormones, dyes, etc. By eating organic, I am, in fact, has been cleaned of all trash. So now I eat a lot of non-organic food, I can tell you.

One more story. I was recently contacted by a new online weight loss company. They will sell prepackaged foods with a scoring system. When I asked if they use organic ingredients or not, the answer is pretty much said it all.

The organic to as “specialty” market. And here’s the problem. How in the world can the food that is so pure and original form, can be considered “special”? But is mercantilism. While we can not promise something like weight loss, you can sell any food quality that I like for the masses.

They also said that their customers enjoy the food “real”. Well, there is more “real” than organic. Side note, based on their site, they have not started yet, so I wonder exactly who these customers. And do not give me the credentials of people who have evolved from the menu.

Now let’s talk dollars and cents. Organic foods have a bad reputation for being expensive. My argument has always been, why not give the money spent on doctors, prescriptions leave, sick and use it to buy food in front better? Prevention by shifting their costs. And on top of that you’ll probably feel better. How can you put a price on that? Now, if you’re not in a position to go much further, I certainly do not advocate to mix them in. If you can not eliminate, reduce. Change your fruits and vegetables, milk or your casual or receive a package of organic chicken breasts. Think about the personal products like shampoo or toothpaste, too. Another source of nasty chemicals are absorbed into your body.

So, all we ask is that you give it some thought and try to work some organic foods in your life as much as I can. I hope to give some food for thought.
